Novacoast's Paul Anderson Talks Strategy in the Economic Recession

Novacoast Inc. Manages Significant Expansion in Economic Recession

CEO Paul Anderson explains how the best strategy in economic downturn is an uncompromising one.

Santa Barbara, CA, October 6, 2010 Novacoast Inc., an IT Professional Services and Product Development Company, was thrilled to have been recognized by Everything Channel on the CRN Fast Growth 100 list at the end of September. The list recognizes solution providers with growth rates in excess of 26 percent, average two-year revenue growth of 110 percent, and average annual sales of products and services of $120.8 million. The ranking is based on two years’ growth of net sales from calendar year 2007 to calendar year 2009. This growth is due in part, according to Novacoast CEO Paul Anderson, to a decision not to let the recession change the way business is conducted. A philosophy of face-to-face client interaction, which Novacoast has been unwilling to abandon despite the recession, has brought Novacoast more customers and kept relationships strong. “While our peers and competitors have been cutting back on travel, we've increased it dramatically,” says Anderson Novacoast has also avoided, says Anderson, the temptation to broaden the company's offerings. “The thinking of most service providers during economic downturn is to add vendors, practices and offerings in an attempt to cast a wider net and catch more business,” he explains. “This only dilutes your core competencies and makes you less valuable to customers. We have dug in deeper with the vendors that we've chosen to partner with and focused our efforts around selling solutions that include their products.” Finally, Novacoast has maintained its focus on its employees as its most valuable asset. “We've kept our head count the same as it was at the beginning of the recession,” Anderson explains. “This not only allowed us to weather the storm but it's put us in a perfect position to take advantage of the recovery when it begins. Our peers and competitors will have to ramp back up while we will simply add to our existing talent.”
